Thinking of you all with love. Heck was an amazing man with a great sense of humor.
I remember the days Pop! Jumping into your moss green van, with the backward doors, and heading out to work at a cemetery. Your instructions not to step on the graves as a hand will grab me. That little nugget of advice, and that the brandy you drunk was Jack-the-rippers blood, left me with plenty a nightmare and running the dark hallway of Te Tomo street! Sharing a strip of double mint gum and trying to replicate your talent for keeping it behind my ear when having dinner, only for Mum to have cut it out of my hair the next morning. Speaking of talent, to this day Pop you are still the only man I know who can eat soup – we’re not talking chunky beef and vegetables soup either – we’re talking the running stuff. It’s a talent I have never been able to master but one that has provided plenty of laughs. When I left NZ in 1998 I started writing you postcards, I did so to maintain contact and did it for me just as much for you Pop. You see mate, you’re a genuine good guy, you were not only my Poppa Hec but my mate. I’m going to miss those postcards and you Pop and I am really grateful for the times and memories. Rest now Pop, with all my love.
